A Calamity of Justice The Genarlow Wilson Case - Law

Is it possible for a 17-year-old to go to jail for a decade for having consensual oral sex with a 15-year-old? In the state of Georgia-before they modified the law-the answer was yes. Every once in a while a case comes along that shocks the conscious of most good-natured people, this case I assure you is one of them.

Genarlow Wilson was a high school senior and age 17 at the time of his alleged criminal offense. He received a 10-year prison sentence because at age 17 he engaged in a voluntary act of oral sex with a 15-year-old female classmate. No violence or assault was asserted or raised in any of the police reports or at trial as to the 15 year old. His conviction for aggravated child molestation was based solely on the fact that the female was 15, which is below Georgia's legal age of consent of 16. However, the sex act in lay terms was "consensual" - that is, agreed to by both teens. Genarlow Wilson has already served approximately thirty months in prison for this crime. What shocks the conscious here is that had they engaged in sexual intercourse, Mr. Wilson would have only served a maximum term of 12 months and would not be required to register as a lifetime sex offender. How is this possible you might ask? In Georgia-before they modified the law-When a 17-year-old male has int ercourse with a 15-year-old female, statutory rape sets the maximum punishment at 12 months for a misdemeanor conviction with no sex offender registration. When that same 17-year-old male receives oral sex from a 15-year-old female, that teen is supposedly guilty of aggravated child molestation which dictates a mandatory 10 years in prison and lifetime sex offender registry. This, unfortunately for Mr. Wilson and the entire judicial system, is a case of an old outdated Georgia Law being steadfastly upheld by what must be an over zealous Assistant District Attorney, more specifically James E. Barker, who lacks the common prosecutorial discretion of most good district attorneys.

The archaic Georgia law that Mr. Wilson has been convicted of violating has been subsequently re-written. The law now more accurately represents what most states have in terms of the age of sexual consent and child molestation laws. The new law now reads that a person is convicted of the offense of aggravated child molestation when: (A) The victim is at least 13 but less than 16 years of age; (B) The person convicted of aggravated child molestation is 18 years of age or younger and is no more than four years older than the victim. This legislature similarly amended the code sections for child molestation and Enticing a Child for Indecent Purposes to grant misdemeanor status without sex offender registration for sexual acts when the victim is at least 14 but less than 16 years of age and the person convicted is 18 years of age or younger and is no more than four years older than the victim. The legislature also amended the statutory rape provision to reflect the same 4-year differential in age between teens to grant misdemeanor status without sex offender registration for acts of intercourse. I presume that the Georgia legislature made the changes in the law in light of this case. What they failed to do, however, was make these laws retroactive. Had they made the laws retroactive, Mr. Wilson would be a free man today. I assume that the Legislature could not stomach the release of what probably amounts to hundreds or maybe even thousands of individuals incarcerated who might qualify under the retroaction.

Either my classification of Mr. Barker is accurate or something else is afoot in this case. In the interest of impartiality, I offer one possible scenario. They only other possible reason that I can think of as to why Mr. Barker is holding steadfast on this conviction is that some other evidence must have been excluded from trial that brings to light the commission of a more serious crime by Mr. Wilson. If the district attorney lacks the evidence to prosecute on that crime he may feel as if the punishment is warranted for what actually took place despite the seemingly harmless nature of two young teenagers engaging in oral sex. I am not sure on this, but it is the only possible scenario that I can think of other than the prosecutor's total disregard for discretion. If this is the case, the district attorney would still be in the wrong because he would in a sense be circumventing the judicial system by not having Mr. Wilson tried on the merits of the evidence for that more serious crime.

In conclusion, I think this case brings to light some of the troublesome issues that exist in the criminal justice system of America. Once upon a time Genarlow Wilson was a high school football star with a bright future, one consensual blow-job later by a teenager two years younger and now he is a prisoner of the state for what looks to be another seven years on top of the three already served. I don't know if anyone is going to step up and rectify this injustice. I can only hope that those in the government with the power of pardon will see this as a calamity of justice and work to release Mr. Wilson. Everyday that Mr. Wilson sits in prison is another black mark on the criminal justice system of the United States of America.

Cinematic Austin: Movies and More - Entertainment - Movies

Along with the many economic and lifestyle benefits Austin offers its residents, in recent years it has also become a popular location for Hollywood productions. The low cost of filming combined with the numerous historic landmarks and picturesque natural scenery of the Austin area makes it exceptionally attractive for producers seeking that special Texan atmosphere. Abundant local accommodations and Austin's unique and friendly style ensure that these special visitors come back time after time. Some of the most notable productions are found below.

Screenwriters and directors Joel and Ethan Coen began their rise to stardom in 1984 with a little film called Blood Simple. Filmed in and around Austin, this stylish noir showcased the talents of an up-and-coming actress who would go on to star in numerous other Coen productions. Frances McDormand's debut performance as the sensual, faithless wife ensured her future success.

The groundbreaking and exceptionally popular miniseries Lonesome Dove was also filmed in the Austin area, taking advantage of the unspoiled natural surroundings and local color. Lonesome Dove has an additional connection to the Austin area, as its screenplay was based on a book written by acclaimed western author Larry McMurtry whose son, James McMurtry, is a roots-rock icon and an Austin resident.

As a longtime Austin resident, Robert Rodriguez has produced a number of motion pictures in the area, including the popular Spy Kids trilogy, GrindHouse (with Quentin Tarantino), The Adventures of Shark Boy and Lava Girl, Sin City, and The Faculty. His production company, Troublemaker Studios, is located in Austin and houses the largest green screen in all of Texas. An adjunct facility, Troublemaker Sound, is also located in the area and provides post-production editing and sound for Rodriguez's films. Troublemaker Studios is currently producing Machete, derived from the previous film GrindHouse and starring Danny Trejo in the title role.

The popular television series Friday Night Lights is also filmed in and around Austin. Recounting the stories surrounding a small town high school football team, the series focuses on the effects of high school sports on students, teachers, coaches, and the town at large. Critically acclaimed, the series struggled at first, but soon found a local core audience due to its realistic portrayals of Texas small-town life.

More recently, Drew Barrymore's directorial debut, Whip It, was loosely based on the Lonestar Roller Girls, a roller derby company based in Austin and owned by the women who perform for it. Critically well received, several scenes for this movie were shot in the Austin area.

Austin resident Mike Judge wrote and directed the 1999 comedy Office Space; primarily filmed in Austin, it is now regarded as a cult classic. Satirizing the office environment and computing firms in general, it starred Ron Livingston and Jennifer Aniston, with Gary Cole and Stephen Root in unforgettable supporting roles. Released to tepid critical and audience response, it has gained in popularity each year since its release, and was awarded the #73 spot on Entertainment Weekly's list of the 100 best films from 1983 to 2008.

The Austin Tourism Board takes an active role in attracting filmmakers to work in Austin. Experienced filmmaking professionals and seasoned crew members are readily available in the Austin area. Additionally, Austin's exceptionally sunny climate and diverse natural surroundings offer a variety of different scenes and backgrounds for filmmakers, all within a relatively small area. Austin's friendly atmosphere is an additional bonus for filmmakers looking for a warm welcome; local government agencies and the Austin Film Commission are ready to help if any problems arise.

Angle Frame Bleachers Structures - Self Help - Advice

Bleachers come in all sizes big and small, often making trade-offs between capacity and portability. Angle frame bleacher structures provide the best of both worlds, offering an economic way to host small and medium crowds. Angle Frame Bleachers are good for having big events and watching outdoor games on.

These bleachers typically have anywhere from three to fifteen or more rows, and are commonly used at high school football venues, soccer games and even for track meets for instance. Their name derives from the angled metal bars that hold the seating in place, and this structure allows them to act as a single unit that can be placed in any number of locations. However, their materials and structure also allow them to withstand great pressure and to be used for years with minimal maintenance.

Depending on their size, these units can be highly portable, and are often built with mechanisms for being towed, providing the ability to move individual units between fields or to be installed at your location with minimal set-up. To have a stress free time and not worrying about how some portable bleachers systems can give you so much trouble, theses bleachers systems will surely not give you the trouble. However, many systems can be anchored securely in place, making them an ideal fixture for Little League baseball fields, weekend soccer fields and for any group seeking affordable, easy seating.

These bleachers come in non-elevated and elevated forms. The non-elevated versions place the first row of spectators at ground level, and are great for youth sports fields since they are easy to set up and move. Elevated bleachers, by contrast, are raised several feet up, giving spectators at large venues a line of sight onto the sports field that is not hindered by sideline activity.

At their most complex, these bleachers include front walk ways, multiple stair ways and room for amenities like press boxes or locker rooms. Also important to consider are safety features such as guardrails, handrails and ADA compliant ramps. These structures can be modified to meet local codes. Many smaller units, however, do not require rails or other safety additions.

The metal supports in these bleachers are typically made of aluminum, which is lightweight and portable, or galvanized steel, known for its strength and durability. These metals can be painted to reflect school colors, and require minimal maintenance. They'll also hold up against years of heavy use, rain and they can be easy to clean up when it comes to when they are dirty.

In cases where these structures may not provide ample capacity, many organizations turn to what are called I-beam bleachers. These get their name from the large metal columns that provide support. Also, some frame bleachers cannot be placed on uneven or angled terrain because then they won't be as stable as they need to be, so custom-built I-beam bleachers should be considered, instead. Smaller bleachers include tip-in-roll bleachers, which are the most portable of bleachers, and other models that can easily be carried by one or two people.

Watch Undefeated Movie Free Online - Entertainment - Movies

Undefeated is such a well-meaning, heart-on-its-sleeve documentary that one feels morally obligated to write words in praise of it. In fact, anyone admitting to a dislike of the film runs the risk of being called a heartless crank. Having scored a 2011 Academy Award nomination in the Best Documentary category, it's safe to say that Oscar voters are not in the camp of doubters and naysayers.

There is, after all, so much to appreciate in directors Dan Lindsay and T.J. Martin's film about a North Memphis high school football coach and his hardscrabble Menassas Tigers' 2009 miracle season. The documentary vividly profiles each of its four principal subjects: There is the compassionate and voluble coach Bill Courtney, whose commitment to his players borders on saintly; the troubled Chavis, battling anger issues as he seeks to be a mature team leader; the sweet-tempered O.C., blessed with superior talent but struggling with academics in his quest for a scholarship; and "Money," an honors student and undersized lineman with a never-say-die attitude.Watch Undefeated Movie Online

Yet after one has recovered from Undefeated's emotional steamroller, there's still the question of whether another film about an underdog high school sports team in the sticks was needed. This is well-traveled ground, after all, with a steady stream of narrative variations, from Remember the Titans and We Are Marshall to Friday Night Lights and The Blind Side. In terms of structure and sensibilities, Lindsay and Martin don't stray from the template established by those earlier titles, following a rising arc of suspense as the team rallies to win in spite of all the odds. In the case of Undefeated, it's the team's chance to make its first play-offs in Menassas' 110-year history that drives the suspense, both across the entire film and within individual games as the Tigers rack up wins, finding their camaraderie and confidence. Each victory ratchets up the stakes for all involved--Courtney, his players, the filmmakers and the viewers--as the team approaches the season's end. For their part, Lindsay and Martin dial up the suspense expertly through their canny arrangement of interviews, pre-game practices, meetings and the games themselves. As the suspense ebbs and flows, Undefeated, for all its good-heartedness, becomes a masterful exercise in audience manipulation that, along the way, defeats its own message.

Overcoming life circumstances, nurturing dreams and building character are timeless themes, and the sports movie has long been a sturdy conveyor of those themes. But if Undefeated aims to be about how one plays the game--on the field and in life--then it's betrayed by a structure that values winning. By borrowing from the standard "winning season" structure of conventional sports movies, the film distracts its audience with the wrong questions when Courtney's message is not about winning or losing--the game is merely a pretext--but about character and how individuals can overcome harsh life circumstances to find victories within themselves.Watch Undefeated Movie Online

In introducing us to Courtney, however, Undefeated finds its voice. The Memphis family man and owner of a lumber business isn't just the team's coach, he's a father figure, mentor and therapist to its troubled players. O.C., Chavis and "Money" are, for all their pluck, still teenagers from broken homes--making them especially difficult and moody. It's a marvel how tirelessly Courtney works to instill character, discipline and selflessness into each of them--to mold these boys into sound human beings. Watching Undefeated, one realizes that it's on the backs of individuals like Courtney that entire communities find their soul, their humanity.

Small Town to Eagerly Welcome New Dork - Entertainment

Ferretsville, SC -- In what is being hailed as "the best thing to happen around here in over a decade", the township of Ferretsville (Pop. 421) is welcoming Myron Wilburforce Tuppley (14, and small for his age) and his parents, Preston and Doris as new residents. "I'm especially happy for the bullying community," says Brock Dobler, Ferretsville's mayor and coach of the Ferretsville High School football team (the FHS "Fighting Ferrets"), "They've had to take turns menacing once another for a long time now in the absence of any real dorks".

Of course, not everyone is quite so pleased. "This sort of thing -- a town preparing in advance for a child to be tormented -- is everything public education professionals have been trying to eliminate," says Tulip Goodwin of the South Carolina Department of Child and Family Services. "Can't these people at least give the boy a chance to be properly sized up before making him a target?"

Mayor Dobler disagrees. "When we first heard young Myron was going to be joining us, we suggested he might want to have a nickname to go by that might be less likely to draw the attention of our many, many bullies. But Myron refused. While I agree that the young man sure won't be having an easy time of it, we have to remember that the jock/nerd dynamic is a tried and true cornerstone of our social compact". The Mayor added that in preparation for the Tuppley family's arrival local bullies have been getting plenty of exercise. "They want to be fresh for this young man by the first day of school," he said.

Myron's parents refused to comment but when asked about why he chose to be referred to by his Christian name when beatings might be otherwise avoided, Myron said "Look, I'm also a 'Doctor Who' fan. My fate is sealed".

But it's not all bad for young Myron. In anticipation of his arrival, the township has also hired an additional school nurse with a strong background in extreme physical trauma. There will also be a blood drive in Myron's name (Myron is Type 'O' Negative), to be held during Labor Day festivities and the principal of FHS has promised the Tuppley's that plenty of blood for Myron will always be on hand.

A Google search finds the name 'Myron' to be of Greek origin and meaning "fragrant balm."

Pickle Juice Help Prevent Muscle Cramping - Health

Currently professional, college and high school football teams and college and high school cross country track teams are beginning their hot summer practices. They will also begin their need to drink pickle juice as a way to help stave off muscle cramps. Runners and bikers, especially those in the very warm southern climates also know full well the benefits that pickle juice provides. Pickle juice can definately help to prevent muscle cramping.

Pickle juice contains salt, calcium chloride and vinegar. The basic ingredients are similar to what you would find in isotonic drinks. Where pickle juice has acetic acid, isotonic drinks contain citric acid, like the sports drink featuring the name gator and power in it.

Great Moments in Pickle History.

The history of pickles stretches so far back into antiquity that no definite time has been established for their origin, but they are estimated to be over 4,000 years old.

" Cucumbers are mentioned at least twice in the Bible (Numbers 11:5 and Isaiah 1:8) and history records their usage over 3,000 years ago in Western Asia, ancient Egypt and Greece. " Cucumbers were brought to the New World by Christopher Columbus, who is known to have grown them on the island of Haiti. " George Washington was a pickle enthusiast. So were Thomas Jefferson, John Adams and Dolly Madison.

OK - Let's Get to it.

Sometimes you may sneak a sip of juice from the pickle jar. That's OK. That seemingly worthless liquid, which often gets tossed into the trash when the pickles are gone, could be the key to athletic endurance and avoiding debilitating leg cramps?

PURPOSE WITH SOME BACKING

The use of pickle juice as a defense against muscle cramps first attracted headlines when the Philadelphia Eagles credited pickle juice with their cramp-free win over the Dallas Cowboys in the over-one-hundred-degrees Texas heat. Rick Burkholder, the Eagles' head trainer, called it his "secret weapon." Pickle companies (such as Mt. Olive Pickle, Vlasic Foods and Golden Pickle) claim that pickle juice is similar to an isotonic beverage and can prevent muscle cramps caused from strenuous exercise.

Golden Pickle has even created a sports drink, appropriately named "Pickle Juice Sport." Golden Pickle claims that Pickle Juice Sport has "approximately 30 times more electrolytes than Powerade and 15 times more than Gatorade." It is even endorsed by Dallas Cowboy Jason Witten.

In August of 2008, I participated in a bicycle ride in Wichita Falls, TX, called the "Hotter N Hell". My distance was 100 miles in hills and I believe that drinking the above mentioned pickle juice helped me to stay in the ride and then finish with a flair(for me). With temperatures reaching upper 90's and humidity around 80% there was a whole lot of sweatin' going on. Lots of bikers had to be picked up by the SAG wagon and carted back to the finish line, unable to complete the ride. I started cramping in my upper quads at about mile 68. I stopped at the 70 mile support area and consumed 24 ounces of straight pickle juice. After about 30 minutes I felt completely refreshed and took off again. I stopped again at two out of three remaining support areas and filled up my drink bottle with pickle juice. I experienced no more cramps and closed the last 5 miles with a 20 mph average. 24 oz of straight pickle juice is way above what a 2 oz. serving suggests, but I did also drink some of my own energy drink as well. However, I do know the effect I received after drinking the 24 oz was real. No more cramps was also real as well.

RATIONALE

So how does this work? Muscle cramps are caused by dehydration from exercising in hot weather and not drinking enough fluids. How could pickle juice help? When you sweat during exercise, you lose a lot of salt and minerals. These minerals and salt are also known as electrolytes. This loss of electrolytes can cause muscle cramping, especially in hot, humid weather. Cells in the body use electrolytes in the cell fluid to maintain voltages across their cell membranes and to carry electrical impulses to other cells. In the case of my bike ride, I had to be able to use my muscles in both a pulling and contracting motion, or muscle contractions. Pickle juice has a very high salt, or electrolyte content. Therefore, drinking pickle juice before and during exerce could possibly provide your body with enough salt, that your muscles will not cramp.

Confused? Don't be. Anything liquid containing any or all of the four commonly considered electrolytes, sodium, potassium, magnesium and calcium will work to help to prevent muscle cramping. Obviously, the more the better. Give it a try on a daily basis and see for yourself. Don't worry about how people look at you when you tip that empty pickleless laden jar of liquid up to your lips.

MRSA Staph Infections - Bad Science, Bad Medicine - Health - Medicine

One of the super-bugs, the antibiotic-resistant bacteria that have arisen through the overuse of antibiotics, is on the loose. This one is called MRSA, which stands for "methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus." MRSA staph infections first arose in hospitals in the 1960s. It is now in the news because of its escape from hospitals and other healthcare institutions, into the community at large. Life-ruining and even fatal infections are increasing among otherwise healthy people, from high school and professional athletes, to housewives, children, and employees. The first time I heard of this super-bug was in an article in Sports Illustrated about the spread of infections among young athletes. The saddening stories in this article included one about a high school football player who contracted a seemingly minor skin infection and died within 7 days from the spread of MRSA.

Numerous articles are appearing in the news about this deadly bacterium. I have cited links to comprehensive descriptions of medical details and symptoms of MRSA staph infections at HerbScientist.com. What is missing from virtually all of these articles is sound advice on solutions to this growing problem. I offer some below. What brings me to writing this article, however, is that modern medicine is launching an all-out blitz against MRSA, which is surely going to make matters worse.

New Research, Same Old Stupid Science

An article in our local newspaper on March 4, 2009, trumpets a brand new study in the search for a solution to MRSA. This study will cost $9 million in grants from government agencies, will take 5 years, and will involve about 3,000 patients. The core of this study will be to resurrect older antibiotics in hopes that something will work.

Keep in mind that methicillin resistance arose because of the over-use of methicillin. The current treatment of choice for MRSA is an antibiotic by the name of vanomycin. Hospital treatment entails using high levels of vanomycin intravenously for several days. It should be no surprise at all that, as of 1996, a new form of staph infection has started to appear in hospitals, first in Japan and now in the U.S. It is resistant to vanomycin and called VRSA.

Staphylococcus aureus is a wiley pathogen. Pathogenic bacteria typically are. Very few life-killing toxins will keep them down for long. It is only a matter of time before the latest mega-project to eradicate staph infections will enable the appearance of newer, even more resistant and increasingly deadly forms of this bacterium. This is stupid. Indeed, it fits the classic definition of insanity: Doing the same thing over and over, expecting a different outcome.

Natural Products to the Rescue

All plants produce antibiotics. They have to, because they are sitting ducks for infection without them. Modern medicine has failed to capitalize on this cornucopia of natural treatments because antibiotic herbs are not sources of patentable drugs. Nevertheless, almost every herb that has ever been tested for antibiotic activity shows a positive effect. Some herbs are more powerful than others against human pathogens.

The neat thing about natural antibiotics is that bacteria do not develop resistance to them when these natural products are in a mixture of at least three substances. Whole herb extracts, of course, typically contain dozens of substances that have some level of antibiotic activity. The failure to develop resistance to mixtures is a general biological principle that applies not only to microbes but also to insect pests and to malignant tumors.

If medical researchers would spend a fraction of the time and money on evaluating antibiotic herbal preparations instead of old antibiotics for treating MRSA staph infections, we would have a much better chance of controlling this growing problem. In fact, the top 5 antibiotic herbs are already well known in botanical research, so the stage is set for quickly finding several good, cost-effective solutions. I've provided more details about these herbs on my HerbScientist.com blog in my article, "MRSA Staph Infections - Antibiotic Herbs Against Bad Medicine."

College Sports Recruiting Opportunities Help Girls Through Bad Economy - Sports

When contemplating strategies for getting financial help with colleges in such a dire economy, getting recruited to play college sports should be at the top of any student-athlete's list. Given that premise, in the environment that men's college football recruiting has created, girls rule, and mens football recruiting may be the best thing that ever happened to womens college recruiting.

How does mens football recruiting fit into the equation? A disproportionately large number of mens scholarships go to football (up to 85 per school). To equalize sports opportunities across both genders, colleges support a broad range of womens sports via scholarships. In fact, female athletes who start planning very early in high school may even be able to pick up a sport they have never competed in before, and find great athletic scholarship opportunities through the college recruiting process. And for those who worry that athletics will take the focus off of academics, fear not, as female athletes have even higher college graduation rates than female college students who dont compet e (Division 1 -71% vs. 64%, and Division 2 -64% vs. 51%--compiled from NCAA sources).

By the time girls get to high school, most know if they're athletically inclined, and they have usually narrowed in on one or two sports of choice. But reality sometimes intervenes. A female student-athlete may have picked a sport that is highly competitive and she doesnt make the team. She may not like the coaching staff or they may not like her. She may have an injury that prevents her from pursuing her sport of choice. She may be interested in other things like student government or theatre, which conflict with the timing of the sport season. Or she may just get burned out or bored with her sport. What should a committed student-athlete do if she can't pursue her favorite sport?

There are all kinds of interesting sports opportunities available to girls who are willing to learn about them. Scholarships are offered for women in 24 sports in Division 1 and Division 2. If these sports are not offered at the high school level, there are probably club or recreational teams available somewhere nearby. It may be fairly easy to establish oneself as a player because many of these sports don't necessarily get the press that more high profile sports like women's basketball or volleyball get, so it may be more of a struggle for college programs to recruit players.

Here's what the landscape looks like. For girls, the sports that are offered at a large percentage of colleges and offer a fair number of scholarships per school are:

Basketball Volleyball Cross country/track and field Soccer Tennis Softball Golf Swimming/Diving

Here are some sports that arent available in as many schools, but have plenty of scholarships to give at the schools that have programs:

Field Hockey Gymnastics Lacrosse Rowing Equestrian Ice Hockey

And here's a fairly long list of sports that are offered in fewer schools and with less scholarships per school but they still have scholarships to give. Coaches in these programs may have a harder time filling these spots so they might offer great opportunities as well:

Bowling Fencing Skiing Synchronized swim Water Polo Archery Badminton Rugby Squash Team Handball

I am the mother of boys, not girls, but I know a good sale when I see one. Colleges are serving up a double whammy right nowvery difficult to get accepted, even more difficult to figure out how to pay for it. Participating in college athletics may make a student-athlete more attractive to an admissions committee, and may result in a scholarship that will cover a large part of the cost. If I was the mother of a female student-athlete and my daughter were even moderately inclined toward athletics, but hadn't settled on one sport yet, or was shut out from the sport she loved for some reason, I would encourage her to expand her athletic horizons a little.

So go ahead, girls -- pick up a hockey stick (field or ice, any kind will do), a bow and arrow, a fencing foil, a bowling ball, or another sporting implement you haven't experienced before. Do a little research to see what schools offer scholarship programs for women in these sports. If these schools match your general criteria for a good college fit, you should pursue them. A few years of training and the world is wide open to you, if youre a dedicated female athlete.

Get More Information on New York Summer High Schools - Education

Getting an internship while in high school is not common practice, but it can pave the way for the student's future career. High school work experience in an area of career interest will provide the student with valuable skills and experience. Very few high school state champions or NCAA champions wrestle only during the regular scholastic season. Most elite wrestlers do not simply wrestle three or four months out of the year. Per iodization is simply the planning of your training for a specific period of time. Different types of Periodization exist including linear, undulating, concurrent, and conjugate. Periodization consists primarily of three phases: the preparatory, competitive, and transition phases.

Whether looking for a Christian academy, Jewish academy, private high schools or private elementary schools, taking a school tour is usually the first step in the application process. Tours, or open houses, are done differently in each school. Therefore, touring with a purpose is important in finding and getting into the private school of your choice. Touring a private school is much more than seeing if you get that "good" feeling about the place. Going on a tour is like looking for a job. You want a place where you can grow, be challenged and that will be fun. To do that you need to... rock your private school tours!

Free New York online high schools are becoming increasingly common. Less than three years ago, a student would have to look far and wide to find a program that was not either a commercial school or a university-based school. There are three basic kinds of free online high schools. They are: Charter schools, Department of Education-sponsored or school-district-sponsored schools, Corporate-sponsored, but state-approved schools. It's no surprise that New York high-school football is a dangerous sport. Permission for child to play means accepting the increased risk of torn ligaments, broken bones, and head injuries. But most recently, child safety experts have suggested that the risk of head injuries could be much higher than originally thought. But High School Football was the greatest preparation for the challenges that life could deliver. Participating in high school football sports is important for motor skill development, maintaining a healthy exercise program and provide s for a release of anger when the academic stressors become overwhelming.

If you are serious about making college coaches aware of you and your basketball abilities and skills, attend a fall NCAA-certified event. An NCAA-Certified event is a basketball tournament or camp that college coaches attend to see play of girls basketball high school. The NCAA has to approve the event in order for it to be considered certified. Once your basketball season is over don't sit down and do nothing. This creates stagnation in your performance and development. If possible, find a team to play with. Playing with a team during the summer months in New York provides great benefits for a player.

The point is that New York junior Middle Schools recognize younger kids shouldn't be treated like older kids. Many of the original concepts have fallen by the way side, but much of the core, like interdisciplinary courses, Connections courses, common planning time, and the team centered scheduling approach remain an active part of schools today. Before summer truly begins a special occasion must take place for it to really be summer vacation, and that's graduation. A graduation gift for a Middle School/Junior High Grad has to be something that your pre-teen or new teen will enjoy.

The Best Audience Bleacher Seating Designs Include Aluminum Components - Sports - Other Sports

More often than not, when you go to a park or field, you will see bleachers that are old and splintered with rusted metal and missing screws or nails. There are alternatives out there, as the state of a lot of park bleachers is nothing to be advertised, new bleachers are readily attainable.

In parks and schools across the country, you can find bleachers that have not been kept up and have taken much abuse due to wear and tear as well as weather. These bleachers will become a risk and might be a danger to observers at little league games, or for people supporting their high school football team over time. If an incident were to happen, negative press for the park or school would undoubtedly have an effect on public opinion, but with a little planning and action, newer, safer seating is readily attainable.

Metal bleachers rust and wooden bleachers splinter and rot, but aluminum bleachers are a safer and longer-lasting alternative, plus they are simpler to keep up in the long haul. Based out of Virginia, ParkNPool specializes in bleachers, and has many variations of aluminum bleachers in their catalogue, ranging from stadium bleachers to tip n roll bleachers that can be easily put aside when not in operation. They carry seating for any location, ranging anywhere from three to fifteen rows, depending on what you require them for.

Seating up to 1,545 people, the aluminum stadium seating range up to fifteen rows, and are ideal for larger sporting events. While basic non-elevated bleachers can go up to ten rows, seating around 250 people, low rise, non-elevated bleachers are perfect for smaller assemblies, but still cary between three and five rows for up to 50 people. For models ranging between 10 and 15 rows, the non-elevated seats also have the option of being transportable as well. Easily moveable and storable for less frequent events, the Tip n Roll bleachers are a bit smaller, with up to only four rows and accommodating less than 50 people.

Aluminum seating is recognized as the most economical choice for outdoor facilities, needling minimal upkeep and maintenance over long periods of time. The capability to withstand frequent weather changes, resiliency and stability are attractive factors, make aluminum benches the best option for many different settings and locations.

If you dont have adequate seating, then no one will be able to enjoy whichever event they are trying to support. Adequate and reliable seating should be the number one concern anywhere sports are played. The more spectators that visit the games to support their team, the more return will be seen in concessions, and the cycle comes full circle.

Social Media Strategy and Branding: Using Available Resources to Create a Brand----Dancing with the Girl You Come With - Marketing - Social Marketing

Social Media Strategy and Branding: Using Available Resources to Create Brand

In Texas high school football, there is an old saying-----"You have to Dance with the Girl You Come With". What this means is that you leverage the resources that you have. Everyone has resources. The scale of social media allows people of limited means to become pre-eminent brands. I've been observing how Kelly Rowland has made smart choices in the uses of her resources to create a brand in R & B music. She is creating a brand by leveraging the tools that social media has given her. In an old media age, this brand would have no chance to compete. In New Media, this brand is becoming a very significant brand. I have been observing this brand's album strategy. In times past, albums were a critical part of a brand's success. An artist had to keep coming out with successful albums to create and maintain their brand. In our new media age, successful albums are not a game-changer in creating a successful brand. An album is a major investment for a music company. If an album is released and it fails, this creates major problems for a brand and its company. Because of the investment involved a brand cannot have an album failure and remain a marketable brand. Last December, Ciara released an album that sold poorly. This brand is now is jeopardy of being dropped by her label. This is why it is interesting to watch Kelly and her album strategy. Recently, Brittany Spears, Jennifer Lopez, and others have released albums. The market is now clogged. In times past, this would have created a disaster for Kelly. Kelly is repositioning her brand in the R & B space. In times past, a successful album and tour would have been a necessity in creating a successful brand. In a social media age, Kelly can be creative, selective, and flexible. She can create a strong brand on her own terms. Instead of an entire album, Kelly has decided to release single songs through particular hosting sites, including her own website and her own Facebook Page, and retail outlets th at burn single CDs for a fee. Creating a brand this way, Kelly now has many touch points for her music. In a study done by McKinsey, it was discovered that a modern brand is created through multiple touch points. These multiple touch points allow Kelly to create friendships with her customers. Friendships between brand and customer are how modern brands are created. The creative use of "singles" creates a revenue stream for Kelly. People are more open to spending $.99 for a song that they really like rather than $18.50 for a lot of songs that they don't know about. Kelly can now leverage her brand by friends sharing with friends through social media platforms. Social Media allows Kelly to observe just what songs to put on her album. On YouTube, Kelly can place a lot material that she has been working on in her studio. She can now track just what material is popular and what isn't. When the time does come for Kelly to release her album, the material on it will be material tha t her friends really want to listen to. Instead of a large tour, Kelly has decided to appear at popular dance clubs in major cities. This is an interesting strategy. This strategy creates enormous brand for her. Tours are about perception. The music business is in a tough economic climate. If an artist tours at large venues, if those venues are not sold out, or if dates have to be cancelled because of poor sales, this hurts a singer's brand. Conversely, if a singer, especially a singer with a big brand such as Kelly, goes to a packed club, this will increase her brand. The choice of clubs gives Kelly many touch points with her fans. She can mingle with them, take photos, and dance with them. In each of the large cities that Kelly has decided to target for club tours, she also goes to the popular radio stations for interviews to create buzz. The interviews are a brand builder because K is very articulate. The interviews create a strong touch point for her brand. Kelly is ev en going to schools to speak and sing.Kelly has embraced her position as a role model. By going to these clubs and speaking at schools about issues facing young people, Kelly not only builds a strong brand with kids, but also with parents. Parents listen to and buy music. This is another brand builder. Each one of those touch points is magnified because the fans are posting, tweeting, and texting as the events are taking place. This creates enormous branding scale for K that she wouldn't be able to get if she just went on a tour. Reed's Law is critical in understanding how modern brand is created. A beginning network of 2 quickly becomes a network of 1,092.Dean

Chris Farrell Membership: Failure Rates and Statistics - Website Promotion - Online Promotion

I have recently decided to take a few online courses and learn how to internet market. I have a degree in marketing and have been in professional sales for almost thirty years, but am fascinated by the growth of the internet and the emergence of the field of internet marketing. I figured out (highlighting the obvious) that it all boils down to getting your message, product or service viewed online by as many people as possible. My goal in the next few months is to create a web site and work to get it positioned on the first page of a selected niche on Google. Probably easier said than done, but it got me to thinking about how and why people succeed and fail in internet marketing. The statistics are rather staggering as Ive read that the overall failure rate of people dreaming of becoming an internet entrepreneur is well over 90%. I did some research, on Google of course, and uncovered some other rather sobering statistics which Id like to share with you.

1) 50% of college freshman eventually graduated. (Amer.College of Testing)

2) 70% of people who graduated from law school became lawyers. (Amer. Bar Assoc.)

3) The percentage of people who went to Weight Watchers and lost weight:

19.4% w/in 5 lbs of weight loss goal. 42.6% maintained a loss of 5% or more. 18.8% maintained a loss of 10% or more.(2001, Journal of Obesity)

4) 12-15% of Americans have a gym or health club membership. 40% use their membership. Less than half of them work out regularly and vigorously. Roughly 3% of Americans have a gym membership and actually use it effectively.(2006, The Amer. Economic Review)

5) 7% of smokers succeeded in quitting on their first try. (Healthy Living)[Chris Farrell Membership]6) 60% of restaurants fail.

57% franchise 61% independent (1991 study from Michigan State/Cornell Univ.)

7) 4.2% of boys who enter the Boy Scouts end up earning the rank of Eagle Scout.(Boy Scouts of America)

8) 24% of people between 18-50 years of age have tattoos. 48% of people between 18-29 yrs have tattoos or piercings in places other thantheir ear lobe. (Journal of Amer. Dermatology)

9) 15% of people abstained from having sex until after their 21st birthday.(Center for Disease Control and Prevention)

Okay, Im not sure what these last two have to do with success and failure, but interesting statistics, none the less.

So why do people fail at so many things and why dont I just give up on my internet dream right now? The rather simple answer is that people who fail at a goal lack the desire, the will and perseverance to stick to it. I believe that often people succeed in areas in which they are strongly motivated and fail in areas where they are not. So were not all failures at everything. So when the realities of staying in school, loosing weight or quitting smoking creep in, its easier to just give up. Vince Lombardi once said that when the going gets tough, the tough get going. Lombardi had many good quotes and the reality is that only the mentally strong succeed. As Coach Deslin, my old high school football coach use to say, You have to want it so bad that you can taste it.

In addition to this Proverbs 27:12 said that if you are failing to plan, you are planning to fail So the take home message for me is to make a goal and stick with it even when its not easy. Also when making these goals they must be planned before they are executed. Goals should be written down and broken down to daily tasks, as well as weekly, monthly and overall objectives. So if I make concrete, written goals and if I want it bad enough, then I am sure to succeed. Winston Churchill once said at the height of World War Two in 1941: Never give innever, never, never, never, in nothing great or small, large or petty, never give in except to convictions of honor and good sense

What does this have to do with Chris Farrells Membership Program? Nothing at all. Its important to understand that where there is a will, there is a way and Chris Farrells internet marketing training will get you off to the right start.

Capture the Attention of the Teen Crowd with Custom Silicone Wristbands - Marketing

How's this for an ideal market - thirty million strong, and predicted to spend nearly $200 billion dollars this year. No, those aren't baby boomers or even upper middle-class Americans. They're teenagers, and more than ever before they're making their own buying decisions, so it makes sense for savvy businesses to reach out to them with new and innovative marketing techniques.

Be Cool, Be Fun

If your business caters to the younger crowd, you'll make a long-lasting impression when you sponsor a wristband giveaway at a local high school football game. Offer the first 300 through the door a silicone wristband in school colors and printed with your business name. Then give teens that stop in while wearing your bracelet a free dessert at your restaurant, a discounted makeover at your salon, or a free round of miniature golf at your fun park. Kids love to collect and wear these brightly colored bands, but even more importantly, they'll serve as a constant reminder of your business - not only to the wearer, but to everyone she meets.

When designing wristbands for teen wear, keep it fun and attention grabbing. Bright swirls, unusual color combinations, and clever quotes are sure winners. Glow-in-the dark bracelets are a whimsical treat, and school colors and mascots are always popular. And if you include the name of the event, such as Homecoming 2011, your giveaway will become a treasured keepsake.

Make Friends

Want to really ramp up your teen marketing? Tie it into their favorite social media outlet. When designing your wristbands, make sure you include your Facebook fan page address, and encourage kids to "like" you by giving a coupon or other valuable prize. Now you have a way to stay in touch with teens long after your wristband giveaway is over.

For a Good Cause

Not only are teens smart consumers, they're socially conscious as well, and they love to stand up for a worthy cause. For your next fundraising event, consider selling wristbands in a variety of colors, and encourage teens to collect them all. Or offer various levels of sponsorship, each with its own custom silicone bracelet. Once kids see their peers wearing the bands, their competitive spirits take over, making marketing a breeze.

Silicone wristbands are also a great choice when it comes time to raise money for a senior trip, new sports equipment, or even summer camp. Rather than costly cookies or magazine subscriptions, offer inexpensive silicone wristbands for increased participation. Not only are sales improved when you offer a low-cost alternative, but imprinting the name of your event on the bands will turn a simple fundraiser into a lasting memory.

When shopping for silicone wristbands, look for a manufacturer capable of creating multi-colored bands in a variety of styles. Quality silicone wristbands have no seams to cause the band to break, and can be debossed or silk-screened. In addition, look for bracelets that come packaged individually, for greater quality control and convenience.

UEFA: Excitement Bringing On One New Fan - Sports

IntroductionA life time soccer hater finds a new genius in the sport after watching the UEFA Champions League Final and following the UEFA European Cup.

Having been a High School Football player, we always considered the soccer guys weak. After all in the US its not exactly a glamour sport, growing up I never saw it on television, except maybe the World Cup and that was about it. But I still had friends that played and would always tell me its an endurance sport and it can be exciting, whatever, I didn't believe them.

Then I went to college and played Rugby, now I would say this is an endurance sport and you still get to hit people, soccer is still for girls and babies. And of course how is there any excitement in a game that a goes back and forth for an hour and a half and 1-0 isn't a rare final.

Well this year, sitting around on a day off my roommates and I tuned into the UEFA Champions League Finals, probably the first soccer game I ever watched from start to finish, and boy was that impressive. The momentum swings, the close goals, overtime and then finally deciding the game on penalty kicks, I actually got excited.

Next came the UEFA European Championships and more excitement. Whether it was Turkey and Russia making their Cinderella run, unfortunately Turkey's run ended today, or The Netherlands putting up more goals than I could imagine in a soccer game, the tournament has been exciting. And I do plan on watching in its entirety the second semifinal tomorrow as well as the final.

Now I'm still a casual fan, don't know the names of the great players, but the control some of these people have on crossing shots and headers is very impressive. The mind-boggling saves or the shots hooking in towards the goal have been exciting examples of great skill. The display of athletic ability overall has been immeasurable.

Soccer, for me anyway, will probably never pass Football, Baseball or Hockey, but it has a chance to make a run at Basketball. And I think its up and coming status in the United States has been very impressive as well. I might never actually even pick a team to follow, but I will continue to watch when it is on that is for sure.

So UEFA Champions League and UEFA European Championships, thank you for making me into a fan of this great game. The athletic ability is something to be amazed by and I look forward to watching it in the future. And hopefully this international game can lead the way for Rugby to one day crack the American stage as well.

Workplace Conflict: Raising Commode Seats - Education - Psychology

Why was the TV show, Seinfeld so popular? A sitcom that was self declared about "nothing' yet so funny, why? In the episodes, the characters never said what they really meant, were emotionally dishonest, and often played head games. Could it be the reality was life-like and in its exaggerated form, we laugh at ourselves? Was Jerry and company's coping skills really working for them or is there a better way?

Have you ever been so mad at your employer that you did something to get even? Being late for a meeting, talking about them behind their back, being overly critical, not doing your best, spreading gossip, or taking extended lunch breaks; these are example of acting-out behavior. Where does this behavior originate and what can management do about it?

During times of conflict, there are several methods of expression; such as being aggressive, passive, passive-aggressive, or assertive. Some of these behaviors destroy relationships; only one style strengthens them; suitable for personal as well as work place environments.Aggressive is the attack mode; it is in your face attitude either physically or emotionally. War is aggressive behavior where the causalities are deadly, but in relationships, the wounds are emotional. In the aggressive mode, the intent is to win at all costs and the price of victory is calculated after the battle when the bodies are counted or in the hollow distance of an emotional wound.

Battles like this happen every day in war-torn countries. Although not as bloody, emotional wounds occur on jobsites where managers control with power, bending others to their will. The command and control style of leadership is a lot about having a winner and a loser, where management thinks aggressiveness is the key to effectiveness.

On Friday night's high school football game, you have witnessed the fear in a young football player's face who knows he has incurred the displeasure of his intimidating coach as he slowly trots back to the bench after missing the tackle that allowed the other team to score. He knows of the tirade of condemnation that follows such transgressions and emotionally braces for the onslaught.

When faced with aggressive managers, employees may respond in a variety of ways. Some employees become passive and adopt the attitude of "whatever". They learn how to do what the boss wants, just enough to escape the wrath they have grown accustom. Out of fear, they do their job with quiet resignation, being careful not to incur the attention of the supervisor and the resulting hot breath of commendation.

Are these employees productive? Yes, fear can be a fearsome motivator! During WWII the Nazis were very successful in using fear to obtain considerable production from slave labor. Are passive employees the most productive? Is this style effective in the long run? Another response is similar to passive but with subtle aggressive component called "passive-aggressive" behavior. Here employees do not directly retaliate in obvious ways but "get even" by sneaky and less apparent counterattacks. Using this behavior pattern, employees adopt just enough speed to get by. During my command and control days, I asked one of my employees if he had another speed. He responded with, "Yeah, but you don't want to see that one!"

Some employees respond passive-aggressively by stealing, spreading rumors, mocking the supervisor behind her back, or subtle body language such as the rolling of the eyes, deep sighs, or shuffling off to complete the assignment. These are all indirect ways of self-expression and designed to balance their perceived lack of power.

I once worked at an office that had only one bathroom that both men and women used. When I first went to work there, the office manager's pet peeve was the commode seats; she hated to walk into the bathroom and see the commode seats up. She requested that I remember to lower them. For three years, I did a great job of lowering commode seats after use; I was proud of my ability and record of compliance.

One day as I was leaving the bathroom, the commode seats were left up and my normal behavior was to return and lower them. This day, I was mad at the office manager, "I'm not lowering those seats ever again", I said to myself, "In fact, when someone else uses this bathroom, I'll go in after them and raise the commode seats. I'll show her!" Can't you see this as major plot on the Seinfeld show?It was at this moment I remembered a great little sentence, "If you do not speak it out, you'll act it out." I knew then I had to lower the commodes seats and go into her office and talk it out with her. The need to lift the commode seats was classic passive aggressive-behavior. Talking with her directly was the final behavior style called "assertive". Direct communication was lacking with the friends of Jerry Seinfeld.

Standing up for oneself in an appropriate manner and speaking about the problem in clear and direct communication is a behavioral style called assertive. People who adopt this behavioral style do not have to play the passive aggressive game. Because of past learning, it is much easier to be indirect and play Seinfeld type games than to be direct and honest. Learning to be assertive requires awareness, practice, and most of all courage.

What works best? Is aggressive behavior the best option as in "Nazi-nurturing"? How about being passive and giving others complete control, or would raising commode seats work best? Would Jerry's passive aggressive style of indirect communication improve productivity? Having a work environment dedicated to honest, direct, and non-attacking communication increases production and retains workers; the bad alternative is raising commode seats!

Career of Fellow Texan Lance Armstrong Highlights the Need for More Sports Law Attorneys - Law

Some superstar athletes develop such a close association with the city or state in which they perform that you cannot mention one without the other quickly coming to mind. Do you think of Peyton Manning without the city of Indianapolis being part of the picture? Of course not. Unless, that is, you are from Tennessee and you still associate the Hall of Fame quarterback with that other UT school that drapes itself in bright orange. Michael Jordan may have studied and played ball at the University of North Carolina and had an awkward late stint with the Washington Wizards, but he always will be associated with Chicago. Here in Texas, we have developed or displayed plenty of amazing athletic talent on the fields and in the arenas. There is a reason that every movie and television program revolving around high school football takes place in Texas. Just think about some of the household names that have played their sport in our stateTroy Aikman, Vince Young, David Robinson, Tony Parker, Nolan Ryan, and Fred Biggio just to name a few. One athlete of whom we are especially proud is native (Austin) Texan Lance Armstrong. Everyone by now, knows his amazing accomplishments and compelling personal story.

Just after his twenty-fifth birthday in 1996, Lance Armstrong was diagnosed with testicular cancer that had spread to his abdomen, lungs, and brain. Even after drastic surgeries and treatments to remove the diseased areas of his organs, doctors gave Armstrong less than a fifty percent chance of survival. Obviously, he did make a full recovery following this devastating diagnosis and went on to win the Tour de France for a record-breaking seven consecutive years, from 1999 to 2005. Lance Armstrong used his celebrity status to create the Live Strong Foundation, an organization which works to inspire and empower people affected by cancer. Who doesnt own, or know someone who owns, one of those famous yellow bracelets that have become a marketing phenomenon for the cause? Armstrongs dedication to shining a light on cancer research is closely felt here in Texas, as well as in the halls of Congress and in charitable circles around the world.

With his high profile and healthy bank account, there certainly have been times at which Lance Armstrong has needed the services of an aggressive attorney to defend his name and image. Most notably, Armstrong has faced ongoing allegations that he has used steroids and other performance-enhancing drugs, a claim, which he has always adamantly denied. A book titled L.A. Confidentiel: Les secrets de Lance Armstrong was published in France in 2004 and purported to include interviews with those close to Armstrong who could account for his supposed use of steroids. Even though its author, David Walsh admitted that it contained only circumstantial evidence, the allegations caused a great deal of unwanted publicity. In 2005, a former employee named Mike Anderson testified in court filings that he found suspicious drugs without an attached doctors prescription in Armstrongs hotel room in Spain. The following year, Armstrongs former teammate, Frankie Andreau, and his wife shared in c ourt testimony that they had witnessed conversations between Lance Armstrong and his doctor back in 1996 during which he admitted to use of various drugs. The accusations that Lance Armstrong used illegal drugs to boost his performance, particularly during his recovery from cancer, continue to follow the athlete. He has vowed to continue to use legal and media channels aggressively to clear his name, guaranteeing that attorneys in Texas will be revisiting the relevant laws concerning steroid use, defamation, and other content that may prove helpful to Armstrongs efforts.

Last week, Lance Armstrong encountered another challenge to his professional standing. During the first stage of the Vuelta of Castilla and Leon race in northern Spain, Armstrong broke his collarbone and is now back home in Austin for surgery and recovery. He had a steel plate and twelve screws inserted in an effort to stabilize the collarbone. Despite this obvious setback, Lance Armstrong still has hopes to race in the Tour de France in July. As his team manager Johan Bruyneel said, "A broken collar bone in the month of March does not at all compromise the start of the Tour de France or your performance in the Tour de France." In Armstrongs case, it appears that the time he will spend away from his chosen profession is not going to be extensive. For some other athletes, the time out of the limelight can prove to be more problematic. If a long-term injury or personal circumstances keep someone away from the playing field or racing circuit for an extended period and the pub lic starts to forget about his star power, the financial and marketing commitments that have been made to the athlete might be unceremoniously dropped. Effective legal counsel can be crucial in an athletes desire to maintain standing in his profession and its related monetary perks.

There is strong evidence to support the idea that athletes, as well as celebrities who have followed other avenues of public notoriety, should always keep a sports and entertainment lawyer nearby. From the first professional contract that is signed to the allegations against ones character that are inevitably made in hopes of financial gain to the unfortunate instances in which an athlete makes a decision to engage in illegal activity, there will be legal issues that need to be addressed. Lance Armstrong has discovered this truth through the unending reports of his use of performance-enhancing drugs. Undoubtedly, Armstrongs Live Strong Foundation also employs attorneys to ensure that contributions are being used effectively and that cancer patients seeking assistance are given proper advice. He may find more cause for an attorneys expertise if this current injury threatens his promised livelihood or negotiations over missed engagements are required. With opportunities to d efend such high-profile personalities and protect their futures, the area of sports and entertainment law is a specialized one of high stakes and great reward.

Don't listen to your boss, listen to that voice inside your head... - Careers - Career Management

"Don't listen to your boss, listen to that voice inside your head"

When we hit that all annoying alarm clock, suck down a few cups of caffeinated coffee, put some sugared cereal into our kids bowls and take that early morning shower, where is our mindset really? Most likely it's not on today and the challenges that lie ahead but the baggage we left behind from yesterday's perils. With all the negative media propaganda, unemployment rates at all time highs, the mistrust in our financial sector it is no wonder people cannot focus on today and today only. Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery and today is a series of clouds that will not lift. Right now we are walking around in a complete fog of mass hysteria and confusion about what the future holds. We have been tricked, manipulated and brainwashed into thinking somehow our government or some other mystical power is going to save us or give us some sort of entitlement. WRONG! You see we come out of high school or College with that feeling of excitement that we no longer have to march to the drum of our professor or parents and we can make our own money with a "good paying job". We are programmed to listen as intently to our boss as we did our high school football coach pushing us to get better fundamentals and help the team. In reality, it's just a smoke and mirrors game to make our boss look better by all of our hard work and forced time commitments to the task given. Here's the ultimate question, would we ever work as hard and as diligent for ourselves if we had the tools and systems in place as we would for our boss? The answer for most is YES but do they really know what that entails? Why would we think that we would or have the innate ability if suddenly thrown into that state we could survive when all we have been taught up to that point is we will be at our job at a certain time, we will do a certain amount of work each day, we will take a lunch hour that is time sensitive and above all we will not make our boss look bad. We have been programmed for so long it's in our subconscious to work for money for someone else but not for ourselves. We have this false sense of security that if we push forward everyday to make someone else look good, we will advance and climb that corporate ladder, make more money and live the life of our dreams. Who ever invented that mindset? I can tell you it was not an entrepreneur or Free Enterprise thinker. Did Warren Buffet, Donald Trump or Oprah Winfrey succumb to that line of thinking? We were born with the right to free speech and god given unalienable rights to make our own choices, choose our means of education and implementation in a free society but somewhere along the line we threw the constitution and all it stands for out the window and came to a government rule and militia state of manipulations and control that we are all choking on. It's time to STOP the madness. We are not puppets, we are not slaves to society and we do have rights and the ability to stand up and fight, not with guns or brute force but by engaging in Free Enterprise acts such as networking, social media awareness, and above all unleashing that inner spirit to start your own business on the internet which is where ALL the wealth is now being created with leveraging and helping people realize their goals and dreams. We must get back to a true exchange for value and assessment of tangible skill sets of groups of people to form support groups, coaching and mentoring and tapping into prebuilt systems that do not require a boss or militia tactics rule. Believe it or not, this is the #1 problem in this current paradigm and financial crisis that we all feel isolated and frozen in time waiting for someone or some perceived entity to bail us out. Do we really need a boss, or is this our false coping mechanism that at least we can rely on something? How can that possibly be a secure feeling when the unemployment rate is at all time highs? If you believe your JOB (J.ust O.ver B.roke) is g oing to provide security and ultimate lifestyle that is congruent with your inner spirit, you are nuts. It's been said your personality and demeanor is fully developed and pre determined for the rest of your life about age 5. Why is it kids climb willow trees and swing from them without a security net? Why is it kids will ice skate down a river in April at 50 degrees with running water below? Why is it kids go through a very distinct stage, the "WHY mommy" stage and we get frustrated with it but ultimately it's the one stage that sets the tone for the rest of their lives? If we would live our life acting like a kid and focusing on the journey of life rather than the outcome we might just find our spirit again. This is how we were all built, but as life gets in the way and we look at all the negative propaganda out there we get isolated and start to question our abilities. The mind is a terrible thing to waste and if we want it back we must listen to probably the most importa nt person to get launch us out of this isolationism and financial crisis, our subconscious. WHY? It knows everything about our child like inner spirit that is just dying to get out.

With Only One Hand - Self Help - Motivational

Jim struggled. "Put on the glove. Catch the ball. Take off the glove. Throw the ball... "

Jim's family struggled silently from the sidelines as well.

Jim kept on. "Put on the glove. Catch the ball. Take off the glove. Throw the ball."

As little Jim grew up his desire was to play sports. His parents and family watched in agony as his determination grew with each mistake made. The sun and sweat of the playing fields didn't make learning or watching any easier. In team sports, each player is essential. Each position sets up the next player for success or failure. One dropped ball can mean failure for the entire team. Each player needs to be able to fully play his position and help take care of the next player. Jim knew he had to figure out a way to be a true team player.

Jim kept trying. "Put on the glove. Catch the ball. Take off the glove. Throw the ball. Put on the glove. Catch the ball. Take off the glove. Throw the ball."

Finally he found a system that worked. You see, Jim Abbott was born with only one hand and Jim loved sports... especially football and baseball. He simply wanted to play. He didn't know why he couldn't. He could throw and catch. He just had to do it differently than 2 handed kids. I guess no one thought to tell him you can't play these sports very long with only one hand.

FINALLY, Jim mastered that "Put on the glove. Catch the ball. Take off the glove. Throw the ball" technique.

Jim started figuring out how to do what he wanted... when he was only 4 years old!!! Why so young? Because he wanted to play... pure and simple.

Looking over Jim's many sports accomplishments and professional sports awards (including being the pitcher on the U.S. OLYMPIC baseball team) you will read:

... "Starting quarterback on his high school football team which went to the finals of the Michigan state championship... went to the University of Michigan on a baseball scholarship... led the U of M Wolverines to 2 Big Ten titles... won the prestigious Golden Spikes Award, the U.S. Baseball Federation's Golden Spikes awards, awarded (twice) Michigan's Most Valuable Pitcher... won gold medal in the 1988 Olympics..." and the list goes on and on.

Yet when you listen to Jim speak, it is to hear a thankful man with a big heart who loves to share the lessons he has learned from his life experiences. He gives back to kids and to life every time he sees the opportunity.

Retired from professional sports now, Jim's reputation as a public speaker is one of respect and courage. Do you know what he says about who is responsible for whatever good he has done? It's always the people in his life who BELIEVED he could.... his parents, family and friends. He speaks often of that simple truth... "they believed in me... so I believed in me."No one ever told him he couldn't and he just never realized that he shouldn't be able to do the stuff he did. How about you? Can you justify NOT doing what you love? I know I can't. I learned a lesson as I wrote about Jim... it is not about what life gives me that makes a difference, it is what I DO with what life gives me that makes a difference.

I hope you felt a little challenged... okay... a lot challenged by Jim's story. No matter what you are going for, keep at it. You can do it!Don't quit just because you feel like a one-handed ball player. Keep figuring out how to do it differently because you will succeed if you don't stop!

Austin Fall Festivities - Family

The air isn't exactly crisp in Austin these days, but fall has found its way to central Texas all the same. Whether it's the University of Texas football fever or the Halloween decorations on every corner, autumn has a hold on Austin and fun festivities abound:

Oktoberfest Austin holds its first annual festival on October 24 in Waterloo Park. Bring two canned goods benefiting the Capital Area Food Bank and enjoy local bands, kids' entertainment and an arts and crafts market.

This is the 49th year for the annual "Salute to Sausage" celebrating German heritage with food and music. Wurstfest runs from October 30 to November 8 in Landa Park in New Braunfels. There are all kinds of fair-like attractions at this festival, including rides and live music.

Pumpkin Patches, or at least the kind that pick the pumpkins and bring them to the public for sale, abound in Austin. Some of them even offer far more than pumpkins. The Elgin Christmas Tree Farm offers a pumpkin patch and hay bale maze. Sweet Berry Farms in Marble Falls has a pumpkin patch, hayrides, and hayfield mazes for all ages, along with homemade ice cream and other treats.

Halloween can be celebrated all month long in Austin. Boo at the Zoo is a unique opportunity to see the zoo by flashlight on weekends in October. Wear a costume, bring a picnic and take a haunted train ride.

Spend an evening at the Austin Nature and Science Center for a Halloween Howl. See the spooky side of nature with all kinds of hands-on family fun. Check out the other Parks and Recreation events like a free haunted house and Halloween carnival.

There is the famous, or perhaps infamous, Halloween on Sixth Street with all sorts of rowdy revelers having scary fun. Shop for a costume at the famed Lucy in Disguise on South Congress before heading downtown to enjoy drink specials and live music.

The Mexican American Cultural Center celebrates Dia del los Muertes with food, music and family fun November 1. Come see the array of traditional altars honoring the dead and even create your own.

Most of the outdoor pool venues have closed for the season, but the cooler weather makes it a great time to take advantage of all the other outdoor fun Austin has to offer. Hike or bike the Barton Creek greenbelt. Walk the 100s of steps up to Mt. Bonnel and check out the view. Watch some college soccer or take in a high school football game. Stroll down South Congress Avenue or the Second Street district and see the one-of-kind shops and eateries. The fun fall festivities in the Austin area are practically endless.

The Coloful Life Teach me A Lesson - Art - Humanities

"everything happens for top,"my mom said whenever I faced disappointment. "If you are able to keep on, eventually something good will happen. And you will realize that it would not possess happened otherwise for that previous disappointment.Inch

Mom was correct, when i discovered after graduating through university within 1932.I had decided to try for a work within stereo, after that work my way up to sports activities announcer. I hitchhiked in order to Chicago as well as knocked about the door of every station-and got rejected every time.

In a single facilities, a sort woman told me which large channels could not risk employing inexperienced person-"Go in the stays and find a little station that'll give you a chance", she said.

We thumbed home to Dixon, The state of illinois. Whilst them wasn't any radio-announcing jobs within Dixon, my dad unfortunate Montgomery Keep experienced opened up a store and wanted an area athlete to manage it's sports activities department. Because Dixon had been exactly where I'd performed senior high school football, We applied. The job sounded just right for me personally. But We wasn't employed.

My disappointment should have proven. "Everything occurs for the best," Mom reminded me. Father offered me personally the vehicle in order to job search. I attempted WOC Radio in Davenport, Iowa. The program director, a wonderful Scotsman named Peter MacArthur, told me they'd already employed an announcer.

As I remaining their office, my personal frustration boiled over. Gurus a1oud,"How can the fellow get to be considered a sport announcer in the event that he or she cannot get a work inside a stereo station?Inch

I had been awaiting the actual lift when I noticed MacArthur phoning, "What was that you stated about sports? Are you aware something regarding football?"Then he or she was me personally before a mic as well as inquired about to transmit an imaginary game.

Going house, as I have many occasions because, I thought of my mother's words: "if a person keep on, eventually some thing good will happen. Some thing wouldn't have happened if not for your previous disappointment" I often question exactly what path my personal life might have used if I would become the task from Montgomery Keep.

Sports Dentistry - The Treatment of Athletic Injuries - Health - Dental Care

Sports Dentistry is the treatment and prevention of oral/facial athletic injuries and related oral diseases and manifestations. In some sports, injury prevention, through properly fitted mouthguards are considered essential. These are the contact sports of football, boxing, martial arts and hockey. Other sports, traditionally classified as non contact sports, basketball, baseball, bicycle riding, roller blading, soccer, wrestling, racquetball, surfing and skateboarding also require properly fitted mouthguards, as dental injuries unfortunately, are a negative aspect of participation in these sports. The National Youth Sports Foundation for the Prevention of Athletic Injuries, reports several interesting statistics. Dental injuries are the most common type of oral facial injuries sustained during participation in sports. Victims of tooth avulsions who do not have the teeth properly preserved or replanted will face lifetime dental costs estimated from $10-15,000 per tooth, the inconvenience of hours spent in the dental chair and possibly other dental problems (like root canal treatment). (See "What to do when a tooth is knocked out" Section)How are dental injuries treated during a game, considering most arenas are generally not capable of housing the dental equipment necessary to perform a restoration, not to mention the player with the injury is determined to get back on the ice? According to Dr. Blair, the first priority is always, "Immediate relief of pain; hockey players are paid to play hockey. It is our job to get them back on the ice as soon and as quickly as possible. The treatment that takes place at the game might be only a temporary fix to get them back in the game and then more involved, more detailed treatment will take place here in the [dental] office after the game or the next day."Perhaps the new breed of young hockey stars entering the NHL are setting the example for mouthguard wear. According to the Academy for Sports Dentistry, "On a national level all states generally mandate mouthguard use in high school football, ice hockey, men's lacrosse, field hockey, and amateur boxing. Different states have mandated mouthguard use for other sports." Entering the professional realm of dental burs sporting does not necessarily mean that players forgo wearing a mouthguard because of their new found fame. The 2008 training camp for the Calgary Flames proves that mouthguard wear is on the rise, according to Dr. Blair, "The numbers are higher every year. This year I think we made 55 mouthguards -- that covers all the different players that came in at different levels." The tough guy mentality has been, and always will be, part of a players strategy, but when it comes to mouthguard wear, "The person that does not wear a mouthguard is getting to be in the minority."

The Role of Faith and Prayer in the Lives of Today's Young People by Todd Rutherford - Entertainment

Daniel J. Brommer's The Everlasting Season illustrates the powerful role that faith can play in young people's lives today, if only they open themselves up to God. Through his protagonist, Darren "Cam" Cameron, a high school football player with a tremendous faith in God and exemplary relationship with Him, both his teammates and readers see how easy it is to form a positive relationship with God.

God and His word go everywhere with Cam, both in his heart and through His words and His book; as Cam packs his bag with everything essential to football, he includes his most valuable possession; "I also brought one more thing, the most important thing: my Bible." After every game, Cam thanks God, thanking him for his prowess on the athletic field, "I know that without you I couldn't accomplish anything; I would be nothing. Thank you for blessing me and guiding me through my life."

Cam's faith inspires those around him to seek a similar relationship with God, and his friends and teammates come to him to learn how to live the full life that he has and to share the enviable relationship with God that Cam has. His friend, Jenkins, comes to him, struggling with a feeling of emptiness in his life; "I know I put on this front that I'm some kind of tough guy and a huge partier, but my life is empty." Seeing the fulfillment in life that Cam has from living his life in a way that honors God, he struggles to unlock the secrets to a fulfilling life; ".I want to have a relationship with Christ, the same kind that you have. I just don't know where to start.

Cam tells him that it is "easy" to have a good relationship with God and that all that Jenkins has to do is to start talking to Him; He is "always listening," all that one has to do is to set aside some time to spend with Him, share our fears and goals, and "include Him in everything." Cam offers his teammate and readers an important message about the role of prayer in our lives; "It's amazing how much better your life will feel. Your days will get better, your attitude."

The Everlasting Season is an incredible testimony to the power of prayer and the role that faith plays in our lives. While many young people today have abandoned faith, the story of Cam and his teammates show that prayer and faith not only can be a part of young people's lives, but also that it can have a positive influence in their happiness and fulfillment, offering readers an incredibly evocative story and message that stimulates reflection and personal growth.

Getting The Most From Marketing - Business

As any company will tell you, getting the most from marketing is something that they spend a lot of time on every day. If you own your own company, you know just how important this is. You will not sell any products if you do not have a wide customer base. You will not gain more success if you do not start bringing in new customers to go along with those that you already have. Three things that you should consider in order to make your marketing work are market research, targeted advertising, and consumer feedback.

Market research can mean many different things, though the basic idea is simple. You want to know what the current market is like so that you can connect with it most effectively. You need to spend time studying consumer buying patterns, popular culture, and the like. If people have started using a certain slang term when talking about the products that you sell, you want to know what it is. You can then change your marketing strategies to reflect this term so that people understand what you are talking about. Using words that were popular when you were a teenager will not help you to connect with teenagers today.

Targeted advertising is the process of aiming your ads at people who are predisposed to wanting your products. If you sell medicine for osteoporosis, for instance, you should not put your advertisements in magazines for teen girls. If you sell football pads and equipment for high school football teams, you do not want to advertise on television channels that are typically watched by the elderly. You need to look at what types of entertainment people like and then put your advertisements in front of those who would be prone to buying what you have to sell.

Consumer feedback is what you will hear about your ads after you have released them. If people were very offended, cut the ad right away. If people thought it was incredibly funny and they are watching in on purpose, make it into a series with recurring events that are all similar. You need to know what people think so that you can make sure that what you are doing is working. Do not just assume that it is working because you though that it would when you started the campaign.

In order to get the most out of marketing, you want to use a mix of market research, targeted advertising, and consumer feedback. You need to use all of these different tools if you are going to have success. When they are used properly, you will have marketing campaigns that spur new interest and spur an increase in sales.
